The duo put Afro-Cuban Jazz on the map with the standards, “Manteca” and “Tin Tin Deo,” their performance on George Russell’s seminal recording, Cubano Be! Cubano Bop!, and their historic concert at Carnegie Hall in 1947—all remarkable breakthrough accomplishments.
