Tuesday, November 21, 2017, 8pm — Sanders Theatre
(Boston) Celebrity Series of Boston will present An Evening with Chris Thile on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at 8pm at Sanders Theatre, Memorial Hall, Harvard University, 45 Quincy Street, Cambridge. This performance is generously sponsored in part by Julia Byers and Steven Holtzman.
Tickets start at $30, and are available online at www.celebrityseries.org, by calling the Celebrity Series box office at (617) 482-6661 Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., or at the Sanders Theatre box office, Holyoke Center, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge.
This concert marks the fifth Celebrity Series performance for Chris Thile; he made his debut in 2012 with the Goat Rodeo Sessions and was seen most recently in March 2017 with Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer.
Chris Thile is an American virtuoso mandolinist, singer, songwriter, and radio personality, best known for his work in the progressive acoustic trio Nickel Creek and the acoustic folk/progressive bluegrass quintet Punch Brothers. He is a 2012 MacArthur Fellow, and in 2016 he became the host of A Prairie Home Companion.
With a broad outlook that encompasses progressive bluegrass, classical, rock, and jazz, Thile transcends the borders of conventionally circumscribed genres in compositions for his own ensembles and frequent cross-genre collaborations. Through his adventurous, multifaceted artistry as both a composer and performer with various ensembles, Thile is creating a distinctly American canon of the mandolin and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike.
Program to be announced from the stage.
