Mixtape Monday: Explore the Jazz of our 2017-18 Season

Jazz has become a cornerstone of each Celebrity Series season, and our 2017-18 offering has something for every fan of great jazz. The buzz is growing for Hudson, the first show in our jazz lineup on October 8, featuring drummer Jack DeJohnette, bassist Larry Grenadier, pianist John Medeski, and guitarist John Scofield, “a confab of four master improvisers who never hesitate to lay down a groove” (NPR). Two generations of Cuban jazz piano share the Jordan Hall stage when Chucho Valdés & Gonzalo Rubalcaba get together for a special two-piano performance on February 16. Celebrate 80 years of Eddie Palmieri when the Grammy-winning bandleader brings his Latin Jazz Orchestra to Boston on November 4. Mix in Christian McBride’s New Jawn (Oct. 29), woodwind virtuoso Anat Cohen and her Tentet in a double bill with saxophonist Ben Wendel on March 10, saxophonist Joshua Redman with the innovative string quartet Brooklyn Rider on May 19, and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis on June 10, 2018 (with “Pops-style” seating at Symphony Hall!) and you know you’ll be in for a year of great jazz.

So while we wait for the new season to get started, grab your headphones, scroll below, and take a listen to our 17-18 Jazz Highlights Mixtape, featuring a sample of tunes from some of this year’s performers!
