Trance, the two-piano project featuring Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, brings together the leading living exponents of two generations in the great Cuban piano tradition for an exciting evening of acoustic piano jazz. Trance speaks of a profound connection to the spiritual forces that flow through the many tongues in music, but also to the musical conversation between two brilliant players and composers whose friendship and mutual admiration and respect goes back decades.

“El maestro Chucho Valdés is one of the greatest treasures of the music world…Valdés grounds his work in the aural history of mother Cuba, while seamlessly weaving in aspects of folk, jazz, and classical to create a singular musical vision.”
—DownBeat

“The music of pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba is a potent mixture of Cuban and American jazz. His style sounds both melodic and rhythmic, filled with exciting and intriguing influences.”
—NPR
