Brooklyn Rider is the modern string quartet for audiences whose insatiable musical appetites match those of the four daredevils in this group. It’s impossible to even scratch the surface of what this quartet has to offer in a single performance, and we are excited to present them in three entirely different contexts this season—all performed in front of an intimate studio audience and streamed live to the world in partnership with GBH.

This first performance features the quartet without any on-stage collaborators, making it a perfect introduction for newcomers, and an alluring departure for Celebrity Series audiences who have seen them with such diverse co-conspirators as Joshua Redman and Gabriel Kahane.

This performance highlights the formidable range of globe-spanning composers who write original works for Brooklyn Rider, including two world premieres by Gonzalo Grau and Osvaldo Golijov. This program will feature original works by composers from Syria, Venezuela, Argentina, and the United States, all performed with the fervent intensity and deep feeling for which the group is known.

“The dazzling fingers-in-every-pie versatility that Brooklyn Rider exhibits is one of the wonders of contemporary music.”

Los Angeles Times

“For the past few years, Brooklyn Rider have pushed the envelope pretty much as far as a string quartet can go, and in the process have raised the bar for other groups: they transcend any preconception about what serious composed music is all about.”
